New arena planning notes: Lewisville, who is trying to lure the Mavs and Dallas Stars (hockey), will ask the residents to vote on permission to build and pay for an arena. If the vote succeeds, Lewisville will raise sales tax by .5 cents if/when the plans for the arena are finalized. Arlington, Irving, and Grand Pairie are also interested in luring the teams. Dallas unveiled a plan last week to build a $142 million behind the Convention Center and Southeast of Reunion (across the railroad tracks), but has not outlined how to finance the project. The Lewisville arena would cost between $110 and $150 million and would be located on a 75- acre site next to Vista Ridge Mall, facing I35. Donald Carter, Mavs owner, recently purchased the land, but he has not said how he plans to develop the land. Rolando Blackman accepted the jobs as TV and radio commentator and assistant coach. He will likely do road games on Ch 11 and home games on radio KLIF and the assistant job is most likely a special assistant role (not on the bench during games). He said that even if a team contacts him about playing, he would remain in Dallas. "I want to make the commitment to be here." Roy Tarpley will likely start at center tonight. Minor injuries (players are expected to be able to play tonight): Terry Davis has a strained left big toe Tony Dumas has a sprained left ankle Popeye Jones had a bruised right hip.
