Terry Davis did not play due to his dislocated finger. Former Mav Walter Bond was cut by Utah earlier in the day. He was cut so that Jay Humphries could come off IR. The game was a sell-out. It was the 4th sell-out of the early season. We've already surpassed last season when we only had 3 sell-outs. [FYI, last year's average home attendance was 12,839 - 25th in the league.] It was a blow out, pure and simple. Once again the Mavs shot absolutely lousy. Unfortunately, this time our opponent shot incredibly - 57% FG. Jason Kidd had a poor performance. I was surprised that he actually attempted 10 shots. After missing his first couple, he seemed reluctent to shoot any more. He would have opportunities to take open shots and he would pass them up. Motta got his first T when Kidd got his 2nd foul mid-way through the 1st quarter on a ticky-tacky foul. Jim Jackson was the only Mav who could score with any consistency. But he missed 5 free throws - and he is normally an excellent free throw shooter. Jamal Mashburn continued with his slump and had his 3rd poor shooting game in a row. He was being constantly double-teamed (which left Kidd open) and tried to force a couple of shots. Donald Hodge lasted a whole minute in the 3rd. He was quickly pulled after he left Karl Malone wide open for two 20-footers (which, of course, Malone buried). Morlon Wiley was the first guard off the bench, then Lucious Harris. Motta has yet to figure out which of the three (including Tony Dumas) he wants as his backup guard. John Stockton is amazing. I still say that if he ever put his mind to it he could be an incredible offensive force. He had me oohing and aahing with a quick cross-over dribble and drive to the basket for a layup. Although he is the best power forward in the league, Karl Malone should be called for offensive fouls much more than he is (which is almost never).
