Don't forget to watch Jason Kidd in the Rookie All-Star game and Tony Dumas in the Slam Dunk contest Saturday on TNT (starting at 6:00 pm Central). The Mavs signed George McCloud to a 2nd 10-day contract. The Mavs, radio KLIF, and some other sponsers are hosting the Jam Session 95 on Saturday February 18 at Richardson High School (my alma mater :) ). The Jam Session will feature players, exhibitions, contests, booths, and various other activities. It runs from 10 am to 5 pm and cost $6. You get half off if you have a KLIF card and/or (not sure, mentioned on radio, but not phone message) $2 off with a Dr. Pepper can. The event will benefit Dallas Mavericks charities. 100 autographs and 50 photos will be limited per player. A small schedule was given on the phone message: 11:00 Ted Davis gives a play-by-play clinic, 2:00 coach Motta gives a coaching clinic, 3:00 assistants Brad Davis and Kip Motta give another clinic, also at 3:00 Q&A with coach Motta and Director of Player Personal Keith Grant (Q&As will also be broadcast on KLIF), 4:00 Q&A with GM Norm Sonju, and sometime around there (it wasn't clear on the message) someone talking with strength and conditioning coach Bob King. You can call (214) 261-KLIF yourself to hear the message (but they ask for your KLIF card number or to fill out a form - so it looks like you have to have one to listen to the messages (the card is free)). There was no mention of pre-ordering the tickets, so I guess you pay at the door. To get to Richardson High School (the event is in the gym), get to Beltine (most common would be Central expressway to Beltine) and head east if you're west of Coit Road or west if you're east of Waterview (including Central) and go to 1250 Beltline (about 1 1/2 miles east of Central and to your right). Turn on the little side road that is to the west of the school and park in one of the side lots. The gym is at the northwest corner of the school. Dallas at Orlando (February 8) Orlando started off to a 7-2 lead with the help of 5 points by Anfernee Hardaway. Dallas came back with a 10-0 run, including 6 points by Popeye Jones, to go up 12-7 with 7:27 to go. Dallas maintained a 3 to 5 point lead over the next 4 minutes and was up 20-15 with 3:11 left. A 3-pointer by Lucious Harris gave Dallas their largest lead at 8 points, but Dennis Scott responded with a 3-pointer of his own and Orlando went on a 7-2 run over the last 1:50 to end the quarter. It was 27-25 Dallas after 1. Shaquille O'Neal had 9 points, Hardaway had 7 points, and Popeye had 12 points. Dallas was shooting 44% FG and Orlando was shooting 43% FG. Brian Shaw scored the first 4 points of the quarter to give Orlando a 29-27 lead. Orlando was up 35-33 with 7:10 left. A monster jam by O'Neal pushed the Magic's lead to 40-33 at 5:50. Dallas was ice cold and only shooting 2-14 FG in the 2nd quarter. With Orlando up 42-35 at 2:45, Nick Anderson nailed a 3-pointer. At the half, 47-37 Orlando. Dallas shot 17% (4-23) FG in the quarter and 36% FG for the half Orlando was shooting 54% FG. O'Neal had 10 points and 5 rebounds, Shaw 8 points, and Hardaway 7 points. Popeye had 14 points and 6 rebounds, Jamal Mashburn 4 points, and Jim Jackson 8 points. Dallas was out-rebounding Orlando 10-3 on the offensive boards. Orlando was up 51-44 with 10 minutes to go when they went on a 9-0 run as Dallas was still missing shoots. Orlando was up 60-44 with 7:10 to go. Dallas had only mad 6 field goals over the past 17 minutes of playing time. Kidd nailed a 3-pointer (his only points of the night) in from a timeout. But Orlando scored the next 11 points to give the Magic a 71-47 lead with 4:45 left. Motta pulled the 3 Js with 3:30 left and Orlando up 73-49. Orlando was up 87-59 after 3. Hardaway had 20 points and O'Neal 19 points and 10 rebounds. Neither player played in the 4th. The starters sat for the 4th and is was garbage time the rest of the way. Orlando 110, Dallas 92. Jamal Mashburn's 7 points and Jim Jackson's 12 points were season lows for the players. The Mavs have 5 days off before their next game (Tuesday in Dallas vs Portland). Quotes: Brian Hill: "It was a game we needed to close out in the first half. We were a little sluggish coming out of the gate but they do such a great job of offensive rebounding. Once we started rebounding, it started our fast breaks and we were able to execute our offense." Anfernee Hardaway: "They played well through the first quarter, getting out to that lead. But they couldn't put up a fight anymore after that. They just couldn't hit any more shots." Jason Kidd: "We're going up against one of the best teams in the league. We just weren't executing well and when you do that against Orlando, you're going to pay for it." 1 2 3 4 Final 2FG 3FG FG% FT% Orlando 25 22 40 23 - 110 .535 .462 .524 .615 Dallas 27 10 22 33 - 92 .442 .294 .415 .643 Halftime: 47-37 Orlando 3rd Q: 87-59 Orlando Technicals: none Refs: Sean Corbin, Joe Derosa, Steve Javie Attendance: 16,010 Orlando REB Player MIN FGM-FGA 3PM-3PA FTM-FTA PTS O-T AST PF STL TO Blk Donald Royal 24 2-5 0-0 4-5 8 0-4 1 1 1 2 0 Horace Grant 31 4-9 0-0 0-0 8 1-8 3 1 0 0 1 Shaquille O'Neal 28 8-15 0-0 3-9 19 4-10 3 3 0 3 2 Anfernee Hardaway 32 7-11 2-3 4-4 20 1-3 6 0 0 1 0 Nick Anderson 31 6-7 3-4 2-2 17 0-2 6 1 1 0 1 Dennis Scott 24 6-13 1-3 1-3 14 0-3 0 2 0 0 0 Tree Rollins 18 0-1 0-0 1-2 1 0-1 0 2 1 1 0 Brian Shaw 16 5-5 0-0 1-1 11 0-1 3 1 0 2 1 Jeff Turner 19 3-6 0-1 0-0 6 1-4 2 1 0 0 0 Sam Bowie 12 1-8 0-1 0-0 2 1-4 2 1 0 0 0 Brooks Thompson 5 2-4 0-1 0-0 4 0-0 0 1 0 1 0 Totals 240 44-84 6-13 16-26 110 8-40 26 14 3 10 5 Dallas REB Player MIN FGM-FGA 3PM-3PA FTM-FTA PTS O-T AST PF STL TO Blk Jamal Mashburn 23 2-9 0-0 3-6 7 2-3 3 0 0 0 0 Popeye Jones 26 6-14 0-0 2-2 14 7-9 4 1 1 2 1 Lorenzo Williams 18 1-1 0-0 0-0 2 0-2 1 5 0 1 0 Jason Kidd 24 1-6 1-3 0-0 3 2-4 3 3 1 2 0 Jim Jackson 26 6-14 0-2 0-0 12 0-2 0 0 0 1 0 Lucious Harris 14 4-6 1-2 0-0 9 1-1 2 0 0 1 0 Donald Hodge 8 1-5 0-0 0-0 2 1-1 0 2 1 0 0 George McCloud 25 5-10 0-2 0-0 10 2-4 1 3 0 0 0 Doug Smith 22 5-11 0-0 0-0 10 0-4 1 1 0 0 0 Tony Dumas 22 2-8 0-4 3-4 7 0-1 5 2 0 0 0 Terry Davis 22 2-4 0-0 1-2 5 0-9 1 3 1 1 0 Morlon Wiley 10 4-6 3-4 0-0 11 0-2 2 1 0 0 0 Totals 240 39-94 5-17 9-14 92 15-42 23 21 4 8 1 patricia
