Some quick camp notes. Donald Hodge has unintentionally found a way to remain on the Mavs roster for a while longer. He had been practicing with a chipped bone in his left wrist. Monday his hand was diagnosed with a torn flexor tendon at the base of his left thumb. He is going to undergo surgery today (Tuesday) and will be out 3 months. And Lorenzo Williams will be out 2 to 4 weeks as well. He injured his right index finger during Sunday night's practice. It was originally thought to just be dislocated, but x-rays on Monday showed it to be broken. And don't expect Tarpley to be back any time soon. The procedure to determine what is causing cramping and inflammation is now scheduled for Friday, not on Monday (yesterday) as had been reported. He did undergo blood tests yesterday. BTW, Tarpley's contract is not guaranteed for non-basketball injuries or illnesses. Scott Brooks almost matched Jimmy's feat of 30-30 in the perimeter shooting drill. On Sunday night, Brooks went 10-10 on the first round and 10-10 on the second round. He missed the first shot of the third round and claimed there was a wet spot on the floor (which became a running joke during the rest of practice). He took the shot again and went 10-10. He didn't get the $500 though as he had missed the one shot. A pat on the back to Popeye Jones. Popeye had taken off his shoes and was about to enter the tunnel. One of the kids above the tunnel (that is where some gather asking for autographs) shouted down, "Popeye, can I have your shoes?" Surprisingly, up flew a shoe. He also tossed up the other shoe. Those who stayed late On Sunday evening, Scott Brooks, Brian Fair, Jim Jackson, and Popeye Jones stayed after practice to shoot around. None one stayed Monday evening, but Motta ran a shooting contest at the end of practice where the players shot from the top of the key one after another. I never did figure out the elimination rule. Kidd won the contest beating out Jackson. Brooks, Terry Davis, and George McCloud were among the last to be eliminated. patricia
