The Mavs will again have a number of Dr. Pepper Family nights. The cost has gone up some though and there was no mention of a parking pass being included. For $49 you can get 4 tickets, 4 hot dogs, and 4 Dr. Peppers for selected games. Call 214-939-2800 or look in the Dallas Morning News (though I have yet to see it mentioned there) for more information. Former Mav update Sean Rooks signed a 1 year contract extension with Minnesota. Morlon Wiley is in Philadelphia's camp, but he did not play last night. Stephen Bardo is in Detroit's camp and played a little last night. As part of a NBA Entertainment feature (it sounded like it will be aired on NBC at some point) Jason Kidd, Jim Jackson, and Jamal Mashburn will be wearing wireless microphones during tonight's game in Miami. Kidd was also scheduled to wear a "helmet cam" during Sunday's practice, but Motta has cancelled the practice for Sunday. Roy Tarpley did under go the medical tests Friday. Everything is a little blurry about what is going on the Tarpley scene. The paragraph in the paper suggests that the Mavs might contest the validity of Tarpley's contract due to the pain he is having in the gallbladder-pancreas area. But that sounds very premature and probably will not happen. Dallas at Indiana - October 13 (pre-season) Mark Jackson, Derrick McKey, Antonio Davis, Eddie Johnson, and Lorenzo Williams did not play. It was the first pre-season game for both teams. Unfortunately, it was not televised (as is none of the pre-season games) in Dallas. I did listen to it on the radio [and I thought one of the reasons for moving to Dallas was so that I didn't have to listen to games on the radio anymore - at least there is no static to contend with up here]. The starters Indiana: Haywoode Workman, Reggie Miller, Duane Ferrell, Dale Davis, and Rik Smits Dallas: Jason Kidd, Jim Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Popeye Jones, and Terry Davis (Meyer was originally thought to be starting but the change was made prior to tip-off) The teams played pretty evenly the first and second quarters. Indiana's largest lead of the half was 4 points and Dallas' largest lead of the half was 5 points. Mashburn had 9 points in the first 9 minutes. Both teams had massive substitutions with Dallas up 20-19 with 3 minutes left in the first quarter (all the Mavs but Jackson were subbed, and that was due to Jackson being on the free throw line). Dallas was up 26-23 after 1. Indiana shot 53% FG and Dallas shot 46% FG. Indiana had 6 turnovers and Dallas only had 1 turnover. Both Loren Meyer and Cherokee Parks played all of the 2nd quarter. Parks played power forward and both of them played very well. From what I could tell, Popeye was the only starter (on both teams) that played in the quarter. Indiana was up 54-52 at the half. Parks had 10 points, Mashburn had 9 points, Kidd had 7 points, Lucious Harris had 7 points, and Meyer had 4 points and 5 rebounds. For Indiana, Damon Bailey had 6 points (and was wildly cheered every time he was even close to doing something - he was an Indiana high school and college star) and Ferrell had 9 points. Indiana played 13 players in the half and shot an incredible 65% FG. Parks had lost a contact lens and had a mild scratch on his left eye during the 2nd quarter. He played a little without the lens. Parks: "I actually made a shot and a couple of free throws, even though I couldn't see." He did not play in the second half due to not having another set of contact lenses. They are trying to get him some for tonight's game. The starters started the 2nd half. Indiana continued their hot shooting. They were up 74-68 with 6 minutes left and had shot 10-11 FG in the quarter. The subs came in with 4:20 remaining and Indiana up 79-70. With Indiana up 81-72, Dallas had shoot 10-21 FG and Indiana 13-16 FG in the quarter. Meyer collected his 5th fouled at the end of the quarter, but managed to play the rest of the game without picking up another. Indiana was up 85-76 after 3. For the game, Indiana was shooting 67% FG and Dallas 44% FG. Indiana expanded on their lead in the 4th and continued their hot shooting. Indiana won 119-100. 1st 2nd 3rd 4th - Final FG% 3PT% FT% Reb Fouls Indiana 23 31 31 34 119 .676 .200 .815 40 18 Dallas 26 26 24 24 100 .462 .154 .737 40 20 Technicals: None Attendance: 16,123 Indiana Pacers REB Player MIN FGM-FGA 3PM-3PA FTM-FTA PTS O-T AST TO PF STL BLK Dale Davis 20 6-8 0-0 4-5 16 2-6 0 1 1 0 0 Duane Ferrell 19 5-7 1-1 0-0 11 0-1 3 0 2 1 0 Rik Smits 21 5-6 0-0 1-2 11 0-3 0 1 1 0 1 Reggie Miller 19 4-6 0-2 0-0 8 1-2 2 0 1 0 0 Haywoode Workman 16 2-3 0-1 0-0 4 0-1 4 3 1 0 0 Damon Bailey 18 3-3 0-0 4-4 10 1-3 1 2 0 0 0 Travis Best 27 5-10 0-1 0-0 10 0-1 4 4 2 2 0 Robert Churchwell 27 4-5 0-0 0-0 8 0-6 3 2 2 1 0 Kevin Salvadori 12 1-4 0-0 0-0 2 0-1 0 1 3 1 0 Fred Hoiberg 15 3-3 0-0 6-6 12 0-1 1 0 2 3 0 Adrian Caldwell 16 3-3 0-0 0-0 6 0-1 1 1 1 2 0 Mark Strickland 23 5-9 0-0 5-8 15 2-6 0 2 0 1 2 Ricky Pierce 15 2-4 0-0 2-2 6 0-0 2 0 2 0 0 Totals 48 48-71 1-5 22-27 119 6-32 21 17 18 11 3 Dallas Mavericks REB Player MIN FGM-FGA 3PM-3PA FTM-FTA PTS O-T AST TO PF STL BLK Popeye Jones 31 3-10 0-0 0-0 6 6-7 0 2 1 1 1 Jamal Mashburn 30 8-14 1-4 1-2 18 0-0 2 0 0 1 0 Terry Davis 24 5-8 0-0 0-1 10 0-5 0 0 3 1 0 Jim Jackson 21 1-5 0-1 3-4 5 0-0 3 3 1 2 0 Jason Kidd 22 5-7 1-1 0-0 11 1-1 5 3 2 2 0 Lucious Harris 17 4-9 0-2 0-0 8 0-0 1 1 3 0 0 George McCloud 18 2-6 0-0 1-2 5 2-2 2 0 1 0 0 Loren Meyer 25 1-7 0-1 3-4 5 2-7 2 2 5 0 0 Cherokee Parks 12 3-4 0-0 4-4 10 0-1 0 0 0 2 0 Scott Brooks 9 1-3 0-1 0-0 2 0-1 1 0 0 1 0 Tony Dumas 16 7-11 0-1 1-1 15 2-3 1 3 3 2 0 Marcus Grant 8 0-2 0-1 0-0 0 1-2 1 0 0 0 0 Brian Fair 8 1-4 0-1 1-1 3 1-1 0 0 0 0 0 Brian Hopgood 5 1-1 0-0 0-0 2 0-0 0 1 1 0 0 Totals 48 42-91 2-13 14-19 100 15-30 18 15 20 12 1
