Motta has cancelled practice for today (Sunday) so don't waste your time heading out to Moody Coliseum. Despite what is listed on the Mavs' handouts, both the Morning News and radio KLIF reported that Monday's evening practice is scheduled from 6-8pm (the handout lists from 6:30 to 8:30). Monday's and Tuesday's evening practices are open to the public and Tuesday is the last day of training camp. Jason Kidd will be wearing the "helmet cam" during Monday's practice (hopefully the evening practice). Dallas at Miami - October 14 (pre-season) Starters Dallas: Jason Kidd, Jim Jackson, Jamal Mashburn, Popeye Jones, Terry Davis Miami: Khalid Reeves, Glen Rice, Billy Owens, Kevin Willis, Matt Geiger The Mavs maintained a small lead through the first 3/4ths of the quarter. It was a battle of the small forwards. Mashburn had 9 points in the first 6 minutes and Rice had 8 points in the first 8 minutes. Dallas was up 21-16 with 3:50 left when Loren Meyer and Cherokee Parks subbed in. Miami then closed the quarter with a 14-2 run to go up 30-23 after 1. The Mavs' opponent was once again shooting lights out. Miami shot 11-18 FG in the quarter. The 2nd quarter started with the starters sitting. The Mavs managed to knock a little off of Miami's lead, but Miami rallied back and was up 37-29 with 7:45 left. The CBA refs gave Meyer a quick 4 fouls and he had to sit for the rest of the half. Miami was up 40-29 midway through the quarter. Dallas went on a 11-3 run to cut Miami's lead down to 43-40 with 2:27 remaining. Dallas was able to make that run due in large part to the CBA refs calling a lot of handchecking fouls against Miami. Miami was up 49-45 at the half. Of the starters, Rice and Popeye played about 5 minutes in the quarter and Willis, Owens, and Kidd played about 2 1/2 minutes. For the half, Rice had 17 points, Owens had 6 points, Willis had 7 points, and King had 6 points. Mashburn had 9 points, Popeye had 9 points, George McCloud had 5 points, Kidd had 4 points, and Lucious Harris had 4 points. Dallas committed 10 turnovers in the half. Miami opened the 3rd with a 14-4 run to go up 63-49 with 8:30 left and never looked back. Miami was up 70-56 with 6 minutes left and 80-62 with 2 minutes left. Miami led 84-64 after 3. Once again, the 3rd quarter killed the Mavs as Miami out-scored Dallas 35-19 in the quarter (Friday night Indiana out-scored Dallas 31-24 in the 3rd). Kurt Thomas made is Heat debut starting the 4th quarter. Miami's other draft pick Terrence Rencher made his debut midway through the quarter. Miami maintained a 20+ point lead through the quarter. The only question of the quarter was if Riley was going to given in to the crowd's chanting for Alan Ogg (he didn't). Miami won 115-88. Well, I guess it was a mixed blessing that the Mavs' pre-season games aren't on TV. Two unexciting, blowout games. As Motta, who has never put much value in pre-season games, said, "We played these two games like they were exhibition games." The Mavs' rookies didn't get to show much in this game as they were both hampered by foul trouble. Jim Jackson has struggled in the first two games. It is not his ankle, though. Jackson: "It's more mental than anything, trying to get back into the flow, just getting back to being comfortable when I'm on the court playing."
