The Mavs signed rookie Cherokee Parks (#12) to a 3 year, $3.35 million contract. It was the maximum amount the Mavs could pay Parks under the new rookie cap rules. He will become an unrestricted free agent after the 3rd year (unless the Mavs re-sign him before then). The break down of the contract: Season Amount 95-96 $971,280 96-97 $1,116,960 97-98 $1,262,640 ----------------- Total $3,350,880 GM Norm Sonju has send a fax to the Mavs' other draft pick Loren Meyer's agent asking to put negotiations for Meyer's contract on hold until next week. If the Mavs were to sign Meyer now, it would put them slightly over the NBA salary cap and that would inhibit the Mavs ability to make trades. Sonju says that the Mavs don't currently have anything in the works, but he wants to keep the flexibility of being under the cap to keep options open. The Mavs have offered to take an insurance policy out on Meyer so he can participate in Sunday-Wednesday's rookie/free agent camp. Mavs single game tickets (including the two pre-season games at Reunion) go on sale at 10:00 am CT at Reunion Arena and local Dillards or by calling (214) 939-2800. Former Mav update: The Washington Bullets signed Tim Leger to a 1 year contract. patricia
