Mavericks To Hold Annual Tip-Off Luncheon
 
DALLAS (October 1, 1997) On Tuesday October 28, the Mavericks will hold their
annual Tip-Off Luncheon at Reunion Arena benefiting the Dallas Mavericks
Foundation.  Among other speakers the Luncheon will feature the presentation
of the Don and Linda Carter Community Spirit Award to Dallas Cowboy Emmitt
Smith.
 
The Luncheon runs from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m., with a silent auction of sports
memorabilia beginning at 11 a.m.
 
Fred Hickman of CNN/SI will preside as master of ceremonies and Utah Jazz
President and former Head Coach Frank Layden will be the keynote speaker.
 
All proceeds will go to the Dallas Mavericks Foundation.  The mission of the
Foundation, which was started at the 1996 Tip-Off Luncheon, is to assist
young people through programs stressing education, good health and skills
necessary for their success.

General Manager Don Nelson, Head Coach Jim Cleamons and Mavericks players
will greet attendees.
 
Silent Auction
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
 *  Featuring items such as Michael Jordan autographed basketball, a pair of
Muhammad Alis boxing gloves, an autographed Dennis Rodman jersey, an
autographed ticket from Nolan Ryans seventh no-hitter, and many other great
items

Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith is the recipient of this years award it
will be in attendance to accept the award.

Manger Don Nelson, Head Coach Jim Cleamons and four-time NBA All-Star Rolando
Blackman (following a video commemorating great Mavericks moments)
