The Mavs' pre-season has started with two losses. They were ugly games that fortunately weren't watched by too many people since it wasn't televised and the games had a low attendance. From Friday night's game vs Philly in Tulsa, there wasn't hardly any Mavs highlights. Jackson had a good game and that was about it. For Philly, Jerry Stackhouse was very impressive and had 12 points in the first quarter. The call of the night was moving screens (the refs often emphasize certain rules during the pre-season, but there weren't any moving screens called Saturday night). Unfortunately, I got to see Saturday's game vs Indiana. Again, only Jackson had a solid game. He also had the play of the night. He had the ball with Jalen Rose guarding him on the side and turned the corner and just exploded to the basket. It was the most encouraging thing that I've seen in a year and a half that the real JJ is back. It was an _ugly_ game. The Mavs' spacing was terrible, the ball movement was awful, the shooting was loosy, and it was just really blah. Cleamon's needs to devote some of practice to developing an offensive set. To be fair though, the Mavs were missing 5 players who would normally get a lot of playing time (Kidd, Mashburn, Gatling, Dumas, Walker). In the Indiana game, Loren Meyer had a terrible first half and a solid third quarter (he played power forward during the game). Erick Strickland had a good 4th quarter with a couple of 3-pointers, a couple of steals, and tight D. Everyone else was just awful. Also in Mavs' news, Oliver Miller says that he still wants to play for Dallas even though the team doesn't have any extra money. He just may be willing to play here for league minimum. patricia ---- Philadelphia 99, Dallas 69 - at Tulsa, Oklahoma 1st 2nd 3rd 4th Final 2FG 3FG FG% FT% Philadelphia 27 22 27 23 - 99 .448 .400 .442 .730 Dallas 17 15 19 18 - 69 .377 .300 .366 .583 Halftime: Philadelphia 49-32 3rd Q: Philadelphia 76-51 Technicals: none Refs: Jack Nies, Nolan Fine, Scott Foster Attendance: 5,673 Philadelphia 76ers REB Player MIN FGM-FGA 3PM-3PA FTM-FTA PTS O-T AST TO PF STL BLK Don MacLean 26 5-12 0-0 6-8 16 0-3 4 0 2 1 1 Clarence Weatherspoon 22 1-4 0-0 4-7 6 1-4 1 2 2 1 1 Scott Williams 18 2-4 0-0 2-2 6 2-6 1 2 4 0 0 Allen Iverson 22 4-8 1-2 0-0 9 0-1 3 2 2 3 1 Jerry Stackhouse 24 7-10 1-1 4-4 19 0-1 1 1 0 1 1 Michael Cage 23 1-4 0-0 1-2 3 3-8 7 1 3 1 0 Mark Hendrickson 15 1-2 0-0 2-2 4 3-4 1 0 1 1 0 Ryan Minor 26 5-15 0-4 5-6 15 3-4 1 0 2 3 1 Lucious Harris 19 4-9 0-0 1-2 9 0-0 1 0 1 1 0 Rex Walters 17 3-4 2-3 0-0 8 0-4 2 0 2 0 1 Michael Hawkins 7 1-2 0-0 0-2 2 0-0 0 1 1 1 0 Tim Kempton 7 0-1 0-0 2-2 2 0-2 0 0 1 1 0 Doug Overton 7 0-1 0-0 0-0 0 0-1 0 1 1 1 0 Jamie Feick 7 0-1 0-0 0-0 0 2-3 0 1 2 0 0 Totals 48 34-77 4-10 27-37 99 14-41 22 11 24 15 6 Dallas Mavericks REB Player MIN FGM-FGA 3PM-3PA FTM-FTA PTS O-T AST TO PF STL BLK George McCloud 26 4-11 0-2 4-4 12 2-5 1 2 3 0 0 Loren Meyer 21 1-8 0-0 0-0 2 2-11 0 5 5 0 0 Eric Montross 17 3-6 0-0 1-3 7 4-8 0 2 5 0 0 Derek Harper 30 1-5 0-1 1-2 3 0-2 3 2 1 1 0 Jim Jackson 27 7-12 0-0 1-2 15 3-5 4 3 2 1 1 Greg Dreiling 24 2-5 0-0 2-2 6 4-10 1 4 2 1 0 Jimmy King 25 2-7 0-1 1-5 5 1-3 3 2 3 0 2 Fred Roberts 13 0-3 0-1 1-2 1 0-0 0 1 2 0 0 Erick Strickland 23 4-9 3-5 0-0 11 1-2 0 1 2 1 1 Jamie Peterson 17 1-2 0-0 0-0 2 1-3 0 1 3 0 0 Jeff Webster 9 1-2 0-0 1-2 3 0-0 0 0 2 0 0 Shawn Harvey 8 0-1 0-0 2-2 2 0-1 0 1 2 0 0 Totals 48 26-71 3-10 14-24 69 18-50 12 26 32 4 4 Indiana 93, Dallas 72 - at Dallas 1st 2nd 3rd 4th - Final 2FG 3FG FG% FT% Indiana 26 32 27 8 - 93 .475 .364 .458 .639 Dallas 16 17 18 21 - 72 .413 .308 .390 .688 Halftime: Indiana 58-33 3rd Q: Indiana 85-51 Technicals: none Refs: Dick Bavetta, Bill Spooner, Robby Robinson Attendance: 11,990 Indiana Pacers REB Player MIN FGM-FGA 3PM-3PA FTM-FTA PTS O-T AST TO PF STL BLK Reggie Williams 14 0-4 0-0 2-4 2 0-2 0 1 2 1 0 Dale Davis 18 7-7 0-0 0-0 14 3-5 0 1 1 0 0 Erick Dampier 24 4-9 0-0 2-7 10 3-8 0 3 6 0 0 Haywoode Workman 16 0-2 0-0 0-0 0 1-3 2 0 2 0 0 Reggie Miller 21 3-8 1-3 0-0 7 0-0 3 0 3 1 0 Brent Scott 23 3-4 0-0 4-6 10 3-8 1 3 3 2 0 Jalen Rose 17 6-6 0-0 1-1 13 0-0 4 1 1 2 0 Travis Best 18 1-7 0-1 5-6 7 0-0 4 1 2 1 0 Antonio Davis 14 3-7 0-0 3-4 9 3-3 0 1 2 0 0 Todd Lindeman 17 0-3 0-0 1-2 1 0-1 0 4 4 0 2 Ira Bowman 19 1-2 0-1 3-4 5 0-1 3 2 2 3 0 Jerome Allen 15 1-3 1-3 0-0 3 0-2 1 3 0 2 0 Fred Hoiberg 24 4-10 2-3 2-2 12 2-6 0 2 3 3 0 Totals 48 33-72 4-11 23-36 93 15-39 18 23 31 15 2 Dallas Mavericks REB Player MIN FGM-FGA 3PM-3PA FTM-FTA PTS O-T AST TO PF STL BLK George McCloud 32 2-7 0-1 3-4 7 0-3 3 4 3 1 0 Loren Meyer 24 5-7 0-0 4-5 14 1-7 0 7 6 1 0 Eric Montross 34 0-4 0-0 4-4 4 2-9 2 2 5 1 1 Derek Harper 28 1-6 0-2 0-0 2 1-1 4 3 1 0 0 Jim Jackson 31 7-10 2-3 6-6 22 2-3 2 3 2 1 1 Erick Strickland 20 3-7 2-5 4-4 12 0-4 3 3 5 2 0 Jimmy King 19 2-6 0-1 0-1 4 1-4 1 3 3 2 0 Jaime Peterson 17 0-2 0-0 1-2 1 1-3 0 4 2 0 1 Greg Dreiling 14 1-2 0-0 0-4 2 2-3 1 4 3 1 0 Shawn Harvey 10 1-3 0-1 0-2 2 0-0 0 0 1 0 0 Jeff Webster 11 1-5 0-0 0-0 2 1-1 0 1 4 0 0 Totals 48 23-59 4-13 22-32 72 11-38 16 35 35 9 3
