The NBA named Steve Francis (Hou) as Player of the Week.  Francis averaged
23 points, 9.7 assists, and 8.7 rebounds as Houston went 2-1.
 
The NBA fined Shareef Abdul-Rahim (Van) $10,000 for comments he made about
the reffing after Monday's LAL-Van game.  Shaquille O'Neal (LAL) made the
game winning basket at the end of the game and there were questions if
O'Neal's shot was before time had expired.
 
The NBA suspended Olden Polynice (Uta) for 1 game for his conviction for
impersonating a police officer and disorderly conduct in a traffic
incident.  Polynice pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 
18 months probation, fined $500, and order to receive counseling.

The NBA named Elvin Hayes as the coach of the sophomore team and Kevin
Loughery as the coach of the rookie team for All-Star Saturday's Rookie
game to take placed February 10.  Phil Chenier was named as Hayes' 
assistant and Jack Marin was named as Loughery's assistant.
 
Phoenix placed Anfernee Hardaway on IR with acute inflammation of the soft
tissue and soreness in his left knee.  His knee has not responded to 
post-surgical rehabilitation and treatments and he will likely miss the 
rest of the season.
