News from January 7.

The NBA named Chris Webber (Sac) and Eddie Jones (Mia) as Players of the
Week.  Webber averaged 28 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 7.7 assists and
Sacramento went 3-0.  Jones averaged 24.7 points and 5.3 assists and Miami
went 3-0.

Atlanta released Mark Strickland and Reggie Slater.

The LA Clippers released Eldridge Recasner.

New Jersey released Steve Goodrich and Derrick Dial and signed Anthony
Johnson and Donny Marshall to 10-day contract.

Phoenix released Daniel Santiago and signed Joe Crispin for the rest of
the season.

Toronto released Carlos Arroyo.

Monday was the first day players could be signed to 10-day contract.
Thursday is the guaranteed contract date - all non-guaranteed contracts
(excluding 10-day contracts) become guaranteed for the rest of the 
season.
