News from January 9.

The NBA announced the participants for this year's Rookie-Sophomore game
to take placed February 9 in Philadelphia at 3 pm Central time.  The Rookie
team consists of Shane Battier (Mem), Pau Gasol (Mem), Andrei Kirilenko 
(Uta), Brendan Haywood (Was), Joe Johnson (Bos), Tony Parker (SA), Zeljko 
Rebraca (Det), Jason Richardson (GS), and Jamaal Tinsley (Ind).  The
Sophomore team consists of Marcus Fizer (Chi), Kenyon Martin (NJ), Desmond 
Mason (Sea), Chris Mihm (Cle), Mike Miller (Orl), Lee Nailon (Cha), Morris
Peterson (Tor), Quentin Richardson (LAC), Stromile Swift (Mem), and
Hidayet Turkoglu (Sac).  Peterson will not play due to a broken right
index finger.

Atlanta signed Mark Strickland to a 10-day contract and placed Chris
Crawford on IR with a torn left ACL.

Orlando placed Patrick Ewing on IR with tendinitis in his right Achilles
and calf.

Toni Kukoc (Atl) suffered a fractured right wrist during last night's
Atl-Cha game.  He is expected to be out 6 to 8 weeks.

Utah signed VP of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor to a 5 year
contract extension.

Kevin Garnett (Min) had 29 points including 11-16 FG, 10 rebounds, 5
assists, and 4 blocks.
Wally Szczerbiak (Min) had 16 points, 5 rebounds - all offensive, 6
