News from April 17.

The NBA named Kevin Garnett (Min) and Jermaine O'Neal (Ind) as Players of
the Month for April.  Garnett averaged 21 points, 15.4 rebounds, and 8
assists as Minnesota went 5-2.  O'Neal averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds as
Indiana went 5-4.

The NBA named Phil Jackson (LAL) and Paul Silas (NO) as Coaches of the Month
for April.  The Lakers went 7-1 and New Orleans went 6-2.

The NBA named Amare Stoudemire (Pho) and Carlos Boozer (Cle) as Rookies of
the Month for April.  Stoudemire averaged 14.1 points and 7 rebounds.
Boozer averaged 12.4 points and 10.7 rebounds.

Toronto fired head coach Lenny Wilkens.

Antonio McDyess (NY) is scheduled to undergo surgery on his knee next week.

Marquis Estill (junior, Kentucky, center) declared himself eligible for the
NBA draft.
