News from June 29. Milwaukee released Ernie Grunfeld from his GM contract. The move was made so that Grunfeld can pursue a GM job with another team as several teams have shown interest in hiring him, most notably Washington. Larry Harris was named as acting GM. Today is the last day that teams can extend qualifying offers to eligible free agents to make them restricted free agents. [Note that not all teams publically report that they extended a qualifying offer, so just because I haven't mentioned an offer having been made don't assume that an offer wasn't made.] July 1 is the date that players formally become free agents. On July 1, teams can start negotiating with free agents, but they can not start signing veteran free agents until July 16.
