Vladamir Stepania (Por) elected not to opt-out of his contract, thus he
remains with Portland for another year.

New Orleans claimed Alex Garcia off the waiver wire.  San Antonio had
released Garcia earlier.

Karl Malone (LAL) exercised his opt-out clause in his contract and is now
a free agent.

Jay Straight (junior, Wyoming, guard) and Dijon Thompson (junior, UCLA, 
guard-forward) withdrew their names from the NBA draft.
