News from June 22.

TRADE: Phoenix traded a future 1st round draft pick and $3 million to
Charlotte for Charlotte selecting Jahidi White (and his $5.88 million
salary) in the expansion draft.

New Orleans announced that Kenny Gattison would be retained as an assistant
coach and that assistant Jeff Bower would be moved to the front office.

Gary Payton (LAL) elected not to opt-out of his contract and remains under
contract with the Lakers for 1 more season.

The expansion draft was held and Charlotte selected 19 players from the
players available for them to draft.  Charlotte could select 1 unprotected
player from each team, but did not have to select a player from each team.
The teams submitted a list of 8 protected players (with at least 1 player
available) and unrestricted free agents could not be protected or selected.
Though there were lots of leaks and rumors as to those left unprotected, 
the official list of players available for the expansion draft was not 
publicized.  Of the 19 players that Charlotte selected, 9 were restricted 
free agents.  The selection of a restricted free agent made that player an 
unrestricted free agent (but can not re-sign with the team that did not
