NBA great George Mikan died at age 80.  Mikan played with the Minneapolis
Lakers from 1947 to 1956 (from the start of the NBA) and was THE marque 
player of the early NBA and his name alone helped the league survive.  
[And triple shame to the Lakers for never retiring his #99 while he was 
alive - an honor very much deserved, even with the Lakers in a different 
city.]
