News from August 24. TRADE: In a sign-and-trade, Dallas traded Eduardo Najera, Christian Laettner, the draft rights to Luis Flores, the draft rights to Mladen Sekularac, a Dallas 1st round draft pick, a Philadelphia 1st round draft pick (which Dallas got from Atlanta via the Jason Terry trade), and cash to Golden State for Erick Dampier, Evan Eschmeyer, and the draft rights to Steve Logan. Dampier was first re-signed to a 7 year, $73 million contract. TRADE: Golden State traded Dan Dickau to Dallas for a trade exception. [Dickau could not technically be included in the above trade as Golden State acquired him on July 20 (as part of the Nick Van Exel trade) and the rules state that a traded player can not be included in a multi-player trade until 60 days after his last trade.] The LA Lakers signed Nate Johnson. Cleveland promoted Mike Bratz to director of basketball operations and named Mark Warkentian as director of player personnel. Portland named Kevin Pritchard as director of player personnel. Altanta named Larry Drew, Herb Brown, Bob Bender, Greg Ballard, and David Fizdale as assistant coaches.
