News from April 2.

The NBA named Kobe Bryant (LAL) and LeBron James (Cle) as Players of the
Month for March.  Bryant averaged 40.4 points and 5.7 rebounds as the
Lakers went 5-9.  James averaged 30.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.7
assists as Cleveland went 11-5 in March.

The NBA named Gregg Popovich (SA) and Pat Riley (Mia) as Coaches of the
Month for March.  San Antonio went 13-2 and Miami went 11-4 during March.

The NBA named Brandon Roy (Por) and Walter Hermann (Cha) as Rookies of the
Month for March.  Roy averaged 18.4 points and 4.8 assists as Portland
went 5-10.  Hermann averaged 12.1 points and 4.2 rebounds as Charlotte
went 6-9.

The NBA named Yao Ming (Hou) and Chris Bosh (Tor) as Players of the Week.
Yao averaged 30 points and 12.5 rebounds as Houston went 3-1.  Bosh
averaged 22.8 points and 14.8 rebounds as Toronto went 3-1.

Dallas signed Kevin Willis to a 10-day contract.

Caron Butler (Was) is expected to be out 6 to 8 weeks with a broken bone
below his right index finger.

The Basketball Hall of Fame announced the inductees for the class of 2007.
The inductees are:

                    won 439 games as coach of University Mississippi
   Pedro Ferrandiz  15 years coaching in Spanish league, 12 Spanish league
                    titles, 4 European Cup championships, 437-90 record
   Phil Jackson     Coach of Chicago Bulls and LA Lakers for 16 seasons, 
                    won 9 NBA titles
   Mirko Novosel    Yugoslavian coach, 99-11 record coaching national
                    team, 494-224 record coaching Cibona
   Roy Williams     over 18 years college coaching, won 2005 NCAA title
                    with UNC
 Referee
   Mendy Rudolph    officiated 2,112 NBA games
 Team
   Texas Western    1966 NCAA Champions, first team to win title while 
                    starting 5 black players
The enshrinement ceremonies will take place September 6-8.
