News from August 8.

Memphis signed restricted free agent Josh Smith to a 5 year, $58 million  
offer sheet.  Atlanta had 7 days to match the offer, but wasted no time 
and immediately matched the offer.  Thus Smith remains a Hawk.

Jason Smith (Phi) suffered a torn left ACL during normal basketball
activity.  He will likely need to undergo surgery and is likely out for
the season (or at least most of the season).
