News from February 12. George Karl (Den) announced that Dirk Nowitzki (Dal) will start in place of Kobe Bryant (LAL, sore left ankle). Stan Van Gundy (Orl) announced that Joe Johnson (Atl) will start in place of Allen Iverson (Phi, ill child). Demar DeRozan (Tor) defeated Eric Gordon (LAC) in the Dunk-In during halftime of the Rookie-Sophomore game. Each had to complete 2 dunks and fan voting (text message) determined the winner, who goes on to compete in Saturday (tonight) night's Slam Dunk Contest. DeRozan received 61% of the votes and Gordon received 39%. Denver signed head coach George Karl to a contract extension. Karl is now signed through 10-11.
