News from July 6. The July Moratorium has ended and teams can sign veteran free agents and make trades. There were over 70 signing agreements reported during the Moratorium. The Moratorium ended at 11 pm CT Wednesday and the first ones out of the gate were: Dallas signed Golden State free agent Harrison Barnes to a 4 year, $94 million contract. [I haven't seen an official announcement that Golden State rescinded their qualifying offer to Barnes, so he is a restricted free agent and Golden State has 3 days to match the offer. But Golden State can not do so and have enough money to sign free agent Kevin Durant (and actually need to renounce Barnes and make a trade (reports are Andrew Bogut) to have enough money).] Golden State signed 2nd round draft pick (#38) Patrick McCaw. Portland signed 2nd round draft pick (#47) Jake Layman. C.J. Watson (LAC) suffered a fractured right hand and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Friday. Brooklyn named Jacque Vaughn, Chris Fleming, Bret Brielmaier, Adam Harrington, and Jordan Ott as assistant coaches. Golden State named Mike Brown as an assistant coach. ---- Patricia Bender pbender@eskimo.com For Trianglons puzzles: http://www.trianglons.com For NBA stuff: http://www.eskimo.com/~pbender/index.html For Mavs stuff: http://www.eskimo.com/~pbender/mavs.html
