9/25 Awesome news! Terry Davis may be cleared to join the team by the start of training camp on Oct. 7. The Mavs' physician said that Davis is farther along than expected for his rehabilitation because he has worked so hard. Terry is able to run the court, rebound, and dunk, but is not yet able to step away from the basket and hit the shot. The extension of his left arm remains limited, but is improving. [And I was assuming that he would be out for the season. It sure made my day!] 9/16 The Cavs named Leonard "Truck" Robinson as an assistant coach. 9/17 The Celtics plan to retire No. 35, worn by Reggie Lewis, some time next season and Kevin McHale's No. 32 this season. "At the request of the Lewis family, the ceremony retiring Reggie's number will be reserved for a date to be set during the 1994-95 season," Dave Gavitt said. The team will be wearing a special patch on their uniform this season to honor Lewis. McHale will be honored at a ceremony Jan 30 during halftime of a game against the Phoenix Suns. Richard Dumas' suspension is only his first strike because his first suspension occurred before he ever played a game in the NBA. The paper only mentioned that he was suspended indefinitetly, not for the entire season. So, if his treatment goes well and the NBA reinstates him, he could return sometime during the season. There is apparently some concern about John Lucas' involvment his Houston rehabilitation program and treating NBA players. Some Suns management said that Lucas would be privileged to information about a player's status that the own player's team would not know do to the rules of the NBA rehabilitation program. I think that person needs to get his priorities straight. The NBA is looking into whether it is a legitimate concern or if the benefits of Lucas' influence overrides those concerns.
