News from June 25. TRADE: Atlanta traded the 45th and 47th picks of the draft to Seattle for the 28th pick. The 1997 NBA draft will be held in Charlotte. The threat of a lockout once again looms for July 1. The NBA and the NBA Players Association had agreed in principle to the new collective bargaining agreement (and the 1995-96 season operated under that agreement) but have spent the past season trying to iron out the details. They have been unsuccessful in doing so. If an agreement is not signed by the end of June 30, it is likely the owners will declare a lockout. Glenn Robinson (Mil) resigned from the 1996 USA Men's Olympic Basketball Team (aka Dream Team III) due to tendinitis in his right Achilles tendon. Gary Payton (Sea) has been named as Robinson's replacement. 1996 USA Men's Olympic Basketball Team roster: [I know that Richmond and Barkley have been assigned numbers, but I only releasized yesterday that I still didn't know what they were.
