News from January 26. The NBA announced the starters for the All-Star game to take place February 9 in Cleveland. The starters were selected by fan voting. For the West the starters are Charles Barkley (Hou, 1,877,232 votes), Shawn Kemp (Sea, 1,713,049), Hakeem Olajuwon (Hou, 1,487,310), Gary Payton (Sea, 1,206,539), and John Stockton (Uta, 1,27,250). For the East the starters are Grant Hill (Det, 1868,020), Scottie Pippen (Chi, 1,683,956), Patrick Ewing (NY, 1,395,759), Michael Jordan (Chi, 2,451,136), and Anfernee Hardaway (Orl, 1,132,024). The reserves are selected by the coaches in each division and are expected to be announced Tuesday. Phil Jackson (Chi) has the best record in the East, but coached the All-Star game last year and, per the Riley rule, a coach can not coach consecutive All-Star games.
