News from May 8.

The NBA announced that Pat Riley (Mia) won the Coach of the Year award.
Riley received 69 votes of a possible 115 media votes.  Dave Cowens (Cha)
received 22 votes, Jerry Sloan (Uta) received 13 votes, Danny Ainge 
(Pho) received 5 votes, Doug Collins (Det) received 3 votes, Bill Fitch
(LAC) received 1 vote, Lenny Wilkens (Atl) received 1 vote, and Flip
Saunders (Min) received 1 vote.
 
Sacramento re-signed head coach Eddie Jordan to a 2 year contract.
 
Indiana named Larry Bird as head coach.  Bird played 13 seasons with
Boston and has never coached.

Portland fired head coach P.J. Carlesimo.

Red Auerbach resigned as president of Boston.  He will remain with the
team as vice chairman.  Coach Rick Pitino takes over as president.

The NBA fined Chicago $25,000 for failing to make the players available to
the media following Wednesday's practice.
