The NBA rejected Miami's Juwan Howard contract saying that the contract
exceed the salary cap.  The league said that Miami was careless and did
not follow protocol in signing Howard and that Miami reached an agreement
with Alonzo Mourning prior to signing Howard and, thus, Mourning's 96-97
salary counts against the cap.

The LA Lakers signed rookie free agent Travis Knight to a one year
contract.  Chicago, who had draft Knight with the 29th pick, renounced
their rights to him on July 12.

Doron Sheffer, LA Clippers 2nd round pick, signed a 3 year contract with
Macabi Tel Aviv of Isreal.  The contract has an out clause where Sheffer
can return to the NBA.

Cleveland released John Amaechi.
