News from October 30. The members of the 1998 USA Basketball team has been announced. The team will compete in the 1998 FIBA Men's World Championship in Athens, Greece next summer. The members are Grant Hill (Det), Gary Payton (Sea), Vin Baker (Sea), Terrell Brandon (Mil), Kevin Garnett (Min), Tom Gugliotta (Min), Allan Houston (NY), Christian Laettner (Atl), Glen Rice (Cha), and Chris Webber (Was). Two other players will be added to the team later. Rudy Tomjanovich (Hou) is the coach of the team. Lionel Simmons (Sac) retired as a player due to a degenerative condition in his right knee. Atlanta released Ken Norman and placed Eldridge Recasner (acute viral infection) on IR. Boston placed Tyus Edney (left ankle sprain), Greg Minor (left metatasalgia injury), and Roy Rogers (right knee pain) on IR. Charlotte placed Travis Williams on IR.
