The NBA named Glen Rice (Cha) as Player of the Week.   Rice averaged 25.3
points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists as Charlotte went 4-0.

Denver signed Harold Ellis, placed George Zidek on IR with a sprained left
foot, and released Steve Scheffler.
 
Philadelphia suspended Allen Iverson for one game for missing practice on
Sunday.

The NBA decided that the slam dunk contest will no longer be a part of
All-Star Saturday.  For the past few years, the superstar players of
declined to participate in the contest and the contest has received a lot
of criticism.  The dunk contest will reportedly be replaced by a 2-ball
tournament where an NBA player and a WNBA player will team up to take
shots from certain spots on the floor.  [Boo to the NBA for nuking the
slam dunk contest.]
