News from January 15.

Rodrick Rhodes (Hou) underwent surgery on a torn right pectoral tendon in
his chest.  The injury occurred while he was lifting weights.  He will be
out 8 to 10 weeks.

The NBA reinstated refs George Toliver, Jess Kersey, Hank Armstrong, Mike
Mathis, Joey Crawford, Joe Forte, and Dan Vaden.  The refs had previously
resigned due to being charged with income tax evasion for not reporting
extra money obtained by the downgrading of 1st class airline tickets.

Chicago officially named Tim Floyd as head coach.  Chicago had hired Floyd
as director of basketball operations with the understanding that he would
become head coach if Phil Jackson did not return [and the keeping the door
open for Jackson to return was purely to try to entice Michael Jordan to
return].  Jackson twice during the summer told Chicago he would not be
back and again turned down their offer a week ago.

Majority owner Jim Thomas sold his share of the Sacrament Kings to the
Maloff family.  The sale must be approved by the NBA Board of Governors.
