News from January 16.

Ref Steve Javie was acquited of income tax evasion charges for not
reporting extra money received by the downgrading of 1st class airline
tickets.  Unlike the other refs who faced similar charges, Javie pleaded
not guilty.

[There are a lot of rumors floating around of players having reached
agreements with teams (such as Jayson Williams with New Jersey, Matt
Geiger with Philadelphia, Derrick Coleman with Charlotte, Steve Kerr with
San Antonio, ...), but I'm not going to report on those agreements until
the players are actually signed (probably on opening signing day -
Tuesday).  If you are interested in following the rumors, I'd suggest
