The NBA fined Karl Malone (Uta) $10,000 for elbowing Brian Grant (Por) in
Tuesday's Uta-Por game.

The NBA fined Shaquille O'Neal (LAL) $7,500 for failing to leave the court
in a timely manner and verbally abusing the refs following Monday's SA-LAL
game.

Alonzo Mourning (Mia) was named as the Defensive Player of the Year.
Mourning received 89 of the possible 118 media votes.  Dikembe Mutombo
(Atl) received 10 votes, Gary Payton (Sea) received 6 votes, David
Robinson (SA) received 3 votes, Tim Duncan (SA) received 2 votes, Theo
Ratliff (Phi) received 2 votes, Michael Curry (Mil) received 1 vote, Kevin
