News from October 12. Wilt Chamberlain, one of the greatest in NBA history, died of an apparent heart attack. He was 63. Chamberlain averaged 30.1 points and 22.9 rebounds in 14 seasons. He had season highs of 50.4 points (61-62), 27.2 rebounds (60-61), and 8.6 assists (67-68). He won NBA Championships in 66-67 with the Philadelphia 76ers and in 71-72 with the LA Lakers and was the league MVP in 59-60 (also Rookie of the Year), 65-66, 66-67, and 67-68. His NBA records of 100 points in a game, 55 rebounds in a game, and minutes averaged of 48.5 (61-62) [he did not play for only 7 minutes] will likely never be broken. [He also holds _many_ other NBA records.] A moment of silence for the passing of one of the greats [and, IMHO, the greatest]. Kevin Johnson (Pho) formally announced his retirement from the NBA.
