I have driven by Golden China many times without stopping, thinking that a place that looks like this could not serve anything except Americanized goop (it probably does not help that the sign outside advertises Orange Flavor Chicken for $4.95 and Chicken Chow Mein for $3.95).

When I did go inside it was no surprise to learn that the restaurant appeals to budget conscious customers, but I also discovered that the food is pretty good. There were several dishes with Szechuan sauce, so this looked like a good bet. I ordered tofu, and it turned out to be well prepared with fresh vegetables. The Szechuan sauce was unique and not made with the standard brown sauce--it had a good spiciness without being overpowering. The only disappointment was the selection of vegetables--lots of green peppers but no snow peas or broccoli.

Like many other Chinese restaurants in the area, the main flaw is the lack of some of the more exotic and authentic dishes, but from what I have sampled, the ones offered are of good quality.
