Surprisingly, Tai Pei seems to be a clone of the Canton Restaurant down the street (I have only noticed Tai Pei recently, and Canton has been around for a while, so I am making the assumption that Canton was there first). Tai Pei, like Canton, serves Cantonese food and is dirt cheap. I actually think Canton is better--it seems more authentic to me.

Tai Pei has some advantages though, the main one being that it serves hot jasmine tea, and it is pretty good.

I ordered Chicken Almond Ding at both restaurants, mainly because this is a dish I rarely see on the menu at other restaurants. I did like it better at Canton, but the one at Tai Pei was very tasty also. It biggest flaw was that the peas and carrots tasted as if they came from a can, but it did have fresh snow peas and other vegetables, as well as a flavorful sauce. The best part is that it can be made without MSG (this is not an option at Canton, although other dishes there can be made without MSG).

Chicken Chow Mein is probably better than the almond ding, and like the almond ding, is freshly made without MSG (if requested).

The Egg Foo Young is not as good as I have found at other restaurants.

The egg drop soup and egg roll are passable.

Tai Pei is a good deal with better than average food.
