PGSA
The PGSA (Persian Gulf Strait Authority) protocol is the regulatory framework
established by Iran to manage and authorize commercial vessel transit through
the Strait of Hormuz. It requires operators to submit passage requests and
detailed vessel manifests prior to entry.
Core Protocol Requirements
To transit the strait, operators must follow these mandatory steps:
Advance Application: Vessel details and passage requests must be
submitted through official Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) Transit
Permits channels at least 48 hours prior to arrival.
Document Verification: Ships must provide accurate data on ownership,
insurance, crew, and routing.
Safe Passage Routes: Vessels are directed to follow specific transit
corridors designated by the Iranian Armed Forces to bypass areas with
heightened security risks, such as mine-impacted zones.
