At 6400 feet, Sunrise is the highest point in Mt Rainier National Park that can be reached by road.

Weather is changeable on the mountain, with rain and snowstorms coming without warning.

However, early fall is one of the best times of the year to ride, with snow usually gone and traffic light. Downhill traffic in the mornings is almost nonexistent.

Everything drops off sharply on three sides of Sunrise Point.

Surprise Lake lies at the bottom of a dropoff at Sunrise Point.
