Mission

The purpose of the Silver Off Topic List is to help keep the Silver List focused on Colloidal Silver and closely related topics while giving our members a congenial place to explore other alternative health issues and any unrelated subjects they want to talk about.

I've set it up so that any Silver List member may post at any time. You can read Off Topic messages at the archives, or subscribe to receive the OT list as individual messages or in digest, or batch, mode.

I hope this arrangement will make it easy for members to move and follow discussions from the Silver List to the Off Topic list.

List Rules

To keep the Off Topic List working well, please read and understand the following rules...

Permitted Topics:

The list's best use is for alternative health topics not related to Colloidal Silver, but any topic may be raised and discussed until it is obviously exhausted.

Courtesy Always:

I expect civil, courteous, and considerate behavior at all times and in all discussions, regardless of topic. Aggressive behavior will not be allowed. Attacks, ridicule and insults are unacceptable.

Because the Off Topic List explicitly permits controversial subjects, two things will be demanded of everyone: sensitivity and tolerance. Everyone will need to be aware of the diversity among our membership and avoid being carelessly offensive or easily offended.

Direct any criticism of other list members' behavior or how the list is being run to me privately and not to the list. Don't play list cop!

Commercial Activity:

Just as on the Silver List, I will not permit overt commercial promotion unless approved by me in advance. Sensible use of signature files or tag lines is permitted, at my discretion.

Do not conduct business on the list. It is up to you to know how to contact someone privately so that you do not violate this rule.

Discipline Policy:

Your membership in the Silver List and Silver Off Topic List are linked. Abusive behavior on either list will result in loss of priveleges on both.

I will issue Warnings, usually in private, when I see behavior that is in violation of list rules and needs to be corrected.

Multiple Warnings or serious offenses will earn a Suspension of priveleges for a period of time I determine, up to and including permanent Removal from both lists.

Please don't confuse Warnings with the friendly suggestions, hints, or reminders I may send your way. I do a fair amount of that as a normal part of running the list, so don't feel crushed if I send you a benign private note. In other words, you will know if you have been Warned!

Fixing Problems:

Lastly, remember that I do not pre-screen messages to the list. To do so would be more work than I am willing to do and would slow things to a crawl.

Therefore, I deal with problems afterwards, frequently in private communications off-list.

Notify me in private e-mail if you see something you believe I should handle. Don't add to a problem because you assume I'm not watching or even approve of what's going on. Do not believe that I have permitted something just because I've not made a public announcement about it.

I can always be reached at mdevour@eskimo.com

List Etiquette

Having a good experience using any mailing list depends on "knowing the ropes" and being considerate of the rest of the members. The following etiquette items, though not hard and fast rules, represent good habits to get into and are strongly recommended. Click on the links below:

Off Topic List Instructions

You can read the Silver Off Topic List three ways. The regular list delivers messages to you one at a time as soon as members post them. The digest version gathers messages up into batches and sends them from once to several times per day. You can also read them on the web at the archives.

An automated system lets you control your subscription without assistance from a slow human. It is explained below.

Posting:

If you are a member of the Silver List you may post to the Off Topic List.

To post a message to the Silver Off Topic List, send it to:

silver-off-topic-list@eskimo.com

You must use this address to post no matter whether you're getting individual e-mails, the digest, or reading at the archives.

If you are receiving the Off Topic List as individual e-mails, you will usually see your message come back from the server within a few minutes. If things are slow, wait at least an hour before you re-post. Such delays are rare and usually clear up by themselves in a little while.

If you're getting the digest, you will only see your message come back the next time a digest is generated. A digest is sent at least once per day, or whenever 40,000 bytes of messages have been stored.

Archives:

Currently there are no archives for the Silver Off Topic List.

To Subscribe:

To receive the Silver Off Topic List as individual messages, send an e-mail message with the body empty and the word 'subscribe' in the Subject field to:

silver-off-topic-list-request@eskimo.com ...or click here.

To receive the Off Topic List in batch or digest form, send an e-mail message with the body empty and the word 'subscribe' in the Subject field to:

silver-off-topic-digest-request@eskimo.com ...or click here.

Make sure that your e-mail address appears correctly in the From: field of your message, and that the word subscribe is spelled correctly.

If you're successful the server will send a confirming e-mail explaining list Mission, Rules, and Instructions for managing your subscription. You will then begin to receive messages or digests as they are sent.

To Unsubscribe:

To stop receiving the Silver Off Topic List as individual messages, send an e-mail message with the body empty and the word 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field to:

silver-off-topic-list-request@eskimo.com ...or click here.

To stop receiving the Off Topic List in batch or digest form, send an e-mail message with the body empty and the word 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field to:

silver-off-topic-digest-request@eskimo.com ...or click here.

You should get a message from the list server telling you the results of your command. If it doesn't work, make sure that your e-mail address appears correctly in the From: field of your message, and that the word unsubscribe is spelled correctly. If you make a mistake the list server will not understand what you want it to do!

If you are not sure which version you're signed up for, try unsubscribing from both. The worst that will happen is you'll get an extra message saying your name was not in the subscriber file of the one you're not on!

If your current e-mail address is different than the one you subscribed under originally you will not be able to unsubscribe yourself. Contact the list owner, Mike Devour, at mdevour@eskimo.com

Switching Between List and Digest:

To switch from the list to the digest or from the digest to the list simply unsubscribe from the one you are on and then subscribe to the one you want. Follow the instructions above.
