When I lived in Albuquerque a number of years ago I made a couple of visits to the Old Town location, and was
not very impressed. It was not until I went to the restaurant on Osuna that I liked the food better--it is geared more
to the local population rather than the tourists around Old Town. This does not mean that the Osuna location has the
city's best, spiciest, or most "hard core" New Mexican food, but there are certain things that I like about it.
My most recent visit resulted because they were open late (until 9:00 p.m. or so), something surprisingly rare in the Duke City. The Blue Corn Red Enchiladas were a real treat after spending some time in El Paso where they are not available--they may not be the best blue corn enchiladas you can find, but they're close. The Stuffed Sopaipilla was a little disappointing, but it was still enjoyable. Monroe's sells salsa in the restaurant and by mail order, and I think it's one of the best around. |
