In big cities a motel restaurant is usually about the worst place to eat, but in small towns they are often times
the places locals go for some serious grub. Such seems to be the case in Shamrock. Irish Inn is one of the
only truly enjoyable hotels in which I've stayed in the Texas Panhandle, and the deal was made even better
by being given a free pass for breakfast at the Irish Inn Restaurant.
The bad thing about the restaurant is that the half of the room designated for smoking was packed with people who seemed to enjoy their cigarettes more than the food. However, I was able to get far enough away to notice very little of the smoke drifting in my direction, and enjoy a country breakfast. The breakfast is served in a buffet, and even though I went in close to 9:00 a.m., items were still fresh and being replenished when needed. A large portion of the buffet consisted of meat items, but it also had some pretty decent scrambled eggs and fresh pancakes. Neither of these were the best I've ever had, but they were better than the average ones I've eaten many times along I-40. The only item in which I was disappointed was the orange juice, and this was the only thing I had that was not included in the complimentary breakfast. One item that was included was either coffee or tea. The hot tea I ended up getting (after the orange juice was so disappointing) was above average in quality and a good start for the day. |
