Good Companion Trees: Oaks

* Good Pines * Bad Companion Trees * Keeping an Invasive Tree *

A large rhododendron grows out of the rootball of an oak. These companions are way too close for comfort, but they illustrate now little impact oaks have on their neighbors.

Naomis are very sensitive to drying out, yet this large plant has survived beside an eighteen inch red oak. This picture was taken on a 90 degree day, and other Naomis far away from trees had leaves curled just as much. Although its days are numbered, it has grown and flowered here for 35 years.
