Getting ready to leave Harrison

Doreen provides identification at various points along the trail.

The trail follows the shoreline of Lake Coeur d'Alene all the way from Harrison to the Chatcolet Bridge.

The stairstep trail up the bridge gives riders many pauses on the uphill climb to the center span. They also provide a thrilling ride down the other side.

The original rail bridge was level, sitting atop the older piers in the picture. A bridge tender lived in the little house on top, pivoting the center span one way to allow large boats to pass and the other permitting trains to cross the trestle.

Rails to Trails, in one of its most ambitious projects ever, raised the center portion of the bridge for the boat traffic and erected the new piers and stairstep decking to connect the two links of the Trail of the Coeur d'Alenes.

Heading back to Harrison. Where's Doreen?

She takes most of the pictures, except this one.

When we do get back, the group heading for Bull Run is leaving town.

We make our way over to The Creamery to enjoy the biggest ice cream cones in Idaho.

While we were there, a motorcycle group rode in on their Harleys. They were intrigued by the recumbent designs. The test rides delighted them, but they weren't about to trade in their hogs.
