Ceres

I had a dream where I was living on Ceres.  It was not like it is now.  It had an atmosphere and enough gravity for a human being to feel comfortable.  Although there were no bodies of water, we got water from somewhere and in fact I and other humans were farming the planet.  The Sun was dim and small and yet it was adequately warm to be comfortable walking outside.  It was like being in a rural part of America, no cities just dirt roads and farm houses here and there and fields.  The plants grew more slowly with the low light but it was okay, we had lots of space to grow them.

The real Ceres is much different than the dream Ceres.

In the dream I was aware that we occupied many other minor planets we had terraformed into livable space.  On some, our sun was just a bright star.  I came there for the same reason people went west across the United States except there were no native beings or life to disrupt.  The only plant life there was what we had brought and propagated, and, other than ourselves, there was no animal life.  I had no memory of the terraforming process, I just knew this was not the natural state of this planet.  It’s gravity was far greater than it would be naturally, enough to hang onto an atmosphere.  It was much warmer than it’s distance from the Sun should have made it.  There must have been some high technology making it so yet I was unaware of it and it was hidden from us.

The thing that stands out was the incredible sense of freedom there was. A 900 mile planet with only a few thousand human inhabitants.  We had vehicles but nothing high tech, not even by today’s standards.  Given that we started with no biosphere we didn’t have to worry about other life forms.  And with so much space available to so few humans, we could space ourselves out comfortably.

I think maybe this dream was a wish fulfillment type of dream in as much as on this planet I am feeling the acute lack of freedom, space, resources.  Everything we know about Ceres from the Dawn mission was contradicted by this dream which leads me to believe it is entirely symbolic.
