Bergamot and other herbs thrived in the bright sunshine and sandy soil on the flat peak of the homesite.

Herbs surrounded the house, keeping the sky open to the views. A few steps over the edge took you into deep forest.

The first plantings of the herb garden are shown here from the third floor deck. More than a hundred different types soon filled the spaces.
