Usenet News

At the present, we do not have Usenet News available. The provider we were using, Newsguy, up and vanished with no warning. We have not found another that is economical for the limited number of users using Usenet service.

Usenet News is available only to authenticated users on our shell servers via shell readers such as nn, trn, or tin, or using graphical readers via remote desktop connections such as pan.

Most news readers have the server name compiled in but for those which it must be specified, the server name is news.eskimo.com. Some require this be set in the environmental variable NNTPSERVER:

export NNTPSERVER=news.eskimo.com

It is possible to access Usenet News from your computer but in order to do so you must setup an ssh tunnel using ssh port forwarding.
