It’s hot in the house and it’s keeping me awake when I really need to sleep. I’m all hot and sticky and it’s hard to sleep that way. No A/C here, rarely necessary in the Pacific Northwet.

Website Re-Work
I’ve been working on a major re-write of Eskimo North’s website. Owing to the size and complexity of our site and services, this has been a slow tedious task. But when it’s finished, most of the content will be in WordPress which will make it much easier to update in the future. Given the rapid pace of technological change, this is really necessary. I am forced to spend my summer slaving over a hot workstation.
Walking on Water

Peter was obviously okay with taking risks. Me too but for all the wrong reasons. I can’t seem to find courage when the right reasons come round.
When I was a kid, for a while I had a regular week-end routine which consisted of going to Northgate Theatre for 50 cent movies on Saturdays, then going to Greenlake to swim (back in those days the city used to actually run water through it and milfoil hadn’t made it’s way up here so it wasn’t nearly as green as it is today. Myself and a friend shared this routine. One of the things we used to do is run towards the lake as fast as we could and see how far we could get on the surface of the water before sinking. I didn’t know this Bible stuff back then, it just seemed like a fun thing to do.
Scientific Advancement
Just got through with a frustrating argument with a Yale trained individual who is still spouting old scientific dogma in spite of both anecdotal, theoretical, and solid experimental evidence to the contrary of his opinion.
The old saying, “science advances one death at a time”, unfortunately has more than a little truth to it.
I think if we really understood the whole truth about the nature of reality, we would have a whole different perspective. Reality is in a constant state of becoming and what it becomes is influenced by our thoughts and beliefs. Stagnant, static unchangeable dead beliefs tend to lead towards a static unchangeable dead reality.
As another old saying goes, “If you can’t change your mind, are you sure you really have one?” It doesn’t take a mind to recite old dead data, any recording device can do that.
San Andreas
Saw San Andreas at the Cinnabar on $6 Tuesdays. Wasn’t worth it. And I’m a big fan of bad sci-fi B-movies.

Eariler today I was talking to a friend who was a former customer many many years ago. She had suffered from anxiety for some time finally to discover her thyroid level was way too high. She made the statement of how she had suffered needlessly all this time. I pointed out that although we don’t always understand the reason, there is a reason for our suffering.
God didn’t have to allow Satan to tempt us, didn’t have to create a plan for our salvation, didn’t have to allow us to have free will, but without free will, real love wouldn’t be possible.
We suffer, and Jesus most of all, for the sake of love.
Joshua 1:6-11
These verses are those chosen by Our Daily Bread today. It is an appropriate set of verses for me today in a way which I will explain below.

6 Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.
7 Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper withersoever thou goest.
8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

I find myself making a transition both in my personal life, having recently ended my term of community custody and entering into a new set of freedoms, and with my business having recently added consulting and web authoring services.
Like Joshua and his people following him, I am facing a time of much uncertainty and the only thing I can know with certainty is that God is with me, even as he was during my time in solitary confinement in prison.

Home Page – Nanook’s Nook Blog
After about a decade of neglect, I finally decided to rework my personal home page. Having just completed a WordPress based website for interlakechinatours.com, I decided to use WordPress for my home page as well. And since Nanook’s Nook blog was already on WordPress, it seemed to make sense to incorporate it into the new WordPress home page.
So I thought this should be easy, I’ll just export from the old and import to the new. One minor problem, the export / import did not adjust the locations of all the uploaded data to the new place it would reside. I couldn’t think of a really elegant way to fix this in the database, so I finally took the easy, but not most efficient, way out, using a mod_rewrite RewriteRule. So the blog is back up fully functioning with pictures and all. I’m still working on my home page.

These verses so apply to myself as well as almost everyone I know, although these days it’s often the fingers via social media, e-mail, and the like rather than the tongue, but the effect is the same.
