Fortune Teller – Hardtimes

This was the first musical phonograph record (45) I had.  Well, the first that my parents bought me that was my choice, as opposed to things they thought I should listen to.  I would have been eight or nine.  I played it until the vinyl was grey.  I still have it in a box of singles somewhere.

Psalm 56 King James Version (KJV)

56 Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.

Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.

They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.

Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?

When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

10 In God will I praise his word: in the Lord will I praise his word.

11 In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.

12 Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render praises unto thee.

13 For thou hast delivered my soul from death: wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

Couldn’t Sleep

Woke up around 5AM to use the bathroom and then couldn’t get back to sleep.  This is about 2-1/2 hours before I’d normally get up so I know I’m going to drag later today.  Need to work on paper stack anyway.  Desk is so cluttered it’s becoming a fire hazard.  I was sick most of January and February and just didn’t have the energy to do more than what was absolutely necessary.

Although I possess almost zero musical skills myself, music has none the less always been a significant part of my life.  I’ve always enjoyed music, especially live music, almost every genre save perhaps for RAP which I’ve always considered anti-music, no melody, usually not much rhythm, anti-music.  I enjoy being around people making music, whether it be live performance, a recording session, or a rehearsal in someone’s basement.

That is why I’ve shared a music video now and then.  It’s cool that YouTube makes it so easy, but then you never know when the lawyers are going to ruin it or they have some policy change.  For now, enjoy while it’s available.

Watched a Dragnet episode on Netflix yesterday.  LSD was just coming on the scene and they had no laws against it.  Fortunately, before the 25 minute episode was over, the legislature came through and passed a law declaring it a dangerous drug and therefore illegal so Joe and Friday could go round up the evil LSD users, one of whom had supposedly died from an LSD overdose.

They don’t make entertainment like this any more, thank you very much.  It was right up there with Reefer Madness.

I am awake now, managed a bloodless shave.  Always nice when there is no morning blood letting.

Our Daily Bread, a daily devotional I use (started reading in a paper form while in prison, now online, and they’ve just recently discontinued the paper version which I think is unfortunate as prisoners don’t have access to the Internet), had these verses for me to read this morning:

John 1:1-9King James Version (KJV)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

Verse 3 is one of the reasons I have problems with creationists who believe that anything they can’t explain, dinosaurs, aliens, are made by Satan to deceive us, are wrong because the Bible is very clear on this point, All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.  The dinosaurs, aliens, not anything was made by Satan.

Strange Dream

I know that last night, particularly during the last few hours of sleep, I kept waking up out of all sorts of strange dreams, but I only remember the last one.  I was a kid, with a group of kids, being chased by some character that resembled an Elvis impersonator, you know with the overly big hair and all.  We were running across peoples yards, for several blocks, and then with the Elvis character more than a block behind us, we arrived at a water front road, it kind of resembled Alki in a vague way but bigger, like an Aurora on Alki.  Somewhere there was a boat that one of the kids had access to.  We were trying to find it, then we could escape the Elvis character via water.  I woke up at that point.

I just woke up, a good time to record dreams before they’re gone.  Anyway, haven’t shaved or showered yet, but need to wake-up all the way before they do that or I’ll cut more skin than hair.  I’ve learned this from unpleasant past shaving experiences.

I need to clean up my office.  So much paper everywhere.  My thinking tends to reflect my environment.  If it’s clean and organized, so is my thinking.  If it’s cluttered and disorganized, so go my thoughts and I become unproductive.
