18 Days

18 days to go until the end of my community custody, three years it’s been.  Won’t miss going to the office and sitting an hour waiting for the officer.

Tonight, my oldest son Carl, who kept Eskimo going in my absence, will be coming over and we’ll be watching some movies we rented at ScarecrowAmong them is The Grand Budapest Hotel, which my wife and I have seen but my son hasn’t.  It’s a good enough film to see twice.  The Wiki describes it as a comedy film, and certainly there is a lot of comedy in it, but it is more than that, it is a story film, well written and illustrated.  It is one of those films with a lot of detail which makes it worth watching several times.

This head scuz, 2-1/2 months into it, is still not entirely gone although it’s now down to an intermittent runny nose which is a lot easier to deal with than sinus and bronchial congestion.  At least I can sleep and mostly breath now.

It seems like computers are not being nice to me recently, the failure with the kernel upgrades, a problem with VNC on shellx, and now a problem with KDE Desktop on Mint and Ubuntu.  Solutions to all of these problems elude me thus far.

Meeting Interesting People

I had to go down the co-location facility to reboot the old shell server, eskimo.com.  After doing that I stopped at a Jack In The Box about a block away, both because I needed to use a rest room and there are none provided in the co-location facility (you would think that a place where people occasionally might have to work for hours would provide such things) and I was hungry.

I’m sitting at a table eating my Jack’s Spicy Chicken sandwich when this man comes in.  He is well dressed and groomed, gives all the appearances of a functional person, until he takes a position more or less at the centre of the restaurant, and starts announcing that all the Starbucks within walking distance have bombs in their telephones.  He further announces that the FBI and CIA are in on it.  They’ve killed tens of thousands, no hundreds of thousands.  He then started to mutter about the drugs they make him take (and he obviously hadn’t taken).

At this point one of the store employees threatens to call the police and then pulled out a cell phone and started to dial, and then the man left.

Too bad, I wanted to hear the rest of the story…  Not to dismiss the serious of this man’s condition, but he’s not the first schizophrenic I’ve encountered, but I do find it interesting how the stories they tell are so much like a dream, jumping from subject to subject without any logical constraints that normally apply to every day reality.

Well anyway, that’s been the highlight of my day, so far..

20 Days

Had to leave my men’s accountability group today because another member brought their baby daughter in.  My community custody conditions, as defined by the DOC, forbids me contact with minors, even though the courts did not order that as part of my sentence, so I had to leave the group.

I’m sure there is a constitutional issue there because it should be the courts and not some agency that determines ones sentence, but I haven’t the money nor the will to fight it, I’ve seen enough court to last me a lifetime, and in twenty days it will be moot.  I think it’s an issue that society should address because it’s overall harmful and not helpful.

But for me, in twenty days it will be moot.

Auntie Grizelda

Come on folks, nobody has even taken a poke at Auntie Grizelda, and those lyrics, the whole song for that matter, kept going through my brain as I tried to go to sleep last night.  Google hasn’t been helpful, even though they know where I am, where I’ve been, and pretty much what I’m thinking.

Here is the quandary for me, no bird of prey has ever lit on me or anyone that I know.  Hence, it isn’t obvious to me how Anti Grizelda is different in this respect or what possible qualities that it these lyrics may be inferring about her.

Nehemiah 1:4-11

Nehemiah 1:4-11King James Version (KJV)

And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,

And said, I beseech thee, O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:

Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.

We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.

Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:

But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.

10 Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.

11 O Lord, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king’s cupbearer.

After Dark

These were all taken with whatever available light existed just after midnight on a moonless mostly clear night. The lighting comes from street lamps and house lights and sometimes distant street lamps reflected off of clouds and some stars are visible. These were all shot with a Canon Rebel set to ASA 1600, but sometimes severely under-exposed and then tweaked with Gimp.
