Speakers Need a Midrange

My speakers definitely need a mid-range but cabinets not big enough to accommodate.  Now that I can drive the amp which in turn can make the woofers really travel, I get some pretty bad inter-modulation distortion.  They’ve got large magnets but apparently not large enough to remain linear throughout their entire throw.

Good Cheap Sound Card

I spent a whole of $20 for a Asus Xonar DG sound card, 96 KHz, 24 bit 5.1 card to replace the horrid on board sound of a Compaq Presario I acquired when a customer upgraded to a newer machine because it had become too slow for him.  I replaced the video card which was horrid with something less antique, and then the audio had a ton of hiss so replaced that.  Added memory and it’s now quite a useful machine.

The audio from this card is quite acceptable so if you’re looking for an inexpensive audio card that can still produce reasonably good sound, this may be an option.

Cop Chase Dream

Dreamt I was driving a mid 60’s 440 powered MOPAR car of some sort going about 70 MPH down a 2-lane road with a posted speed limit of 30 MPH.

Traffic cop noticed this and turned on his lights in pursuit.  I stomped the accelerator and was now going 130 MPH.

I lost control on a corner and went over an embankment and onto some rough ground and ended up getting the car stuck.  I got out on foot and ran but cops caught me and that’s when I woke up.

This is Comcast

This is Comcrap’s idea of “fixed”:

1533 packets transmitted, 1495 received, 2% packet loss, time 1534162ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 4.901/42.887/11614.747/494.838 ms, pipe 12

Is 11 seconds lag your idea of “fixed”?  This is what I got AFTER their automated system called to tell me my service was “fixed”.

Unreal Dream

I had a dream of a much different version of Earth.  I was somewhere on the East coast, south of Virginia, I could see Virginia where I was.

I was walking with someone I used to work with when I worked for PNB/US West/Qwest, Len Hickey, on a road on flat ground.

It was a clear pleasant summer day, not to warm or cold.  However, looking North you could see a great field of stars and galaxies even in the daytime sky.

There was some wispy clouds and the sun had a prismatic halo around it.

It was like I had some kind of super vision and could see, like the Who song says, for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles.

Future Dream

Had a dream placed in the future near where I live.

In the present, they will be building a light rail station to be completed in 2023.  The downside to this is that they are rezoning the neighborhood to become urban slums.

Some years ago, our wonderful city council turned a 4-lane 185th street into a two-lane with turn lanes and bike lanes.  They reduced the speed limit from 35 to 30.  The combined total of these changes was to significantly increase traffic congestion during peak hours.

They’re building a light rail station at 185th and I-5, this will no doubt increase traffic significantly as well the six story apartment buildings with no parking on an already overloaded road.

In the dream I had, this light rail station turned into something more and the surrounding community turned into something different as well.  Instead of just one north-south route, in this dream there were a dozen or so different trains going to different surrounding communities.

I like trains, if they’re not overcrowded and you can actually sit and relax to your destination.  I have a hunch though that these will be overcrowded since economics favor stuffing as many bodies in a box as well fit under pressure.

I used to really enjoy driving when I was younger.  Now with all the SUVs and the morons that usually drive them hogging the road, not so much anymore.  Trains would be okay.  But apartments and I wouldn’t get along well, I’m too noisy.  And apartments tend to be incompatible with large dogs.  I lived in one for eight years, I hope I don’t have to return to that style of living.  It was not fun.

Maybe not so bad if trains are cheap and I can travel willy nilly just for fun.

Pain

In addition to the pain of constipation, I had a lot of muscle tension in my feet and lower legs and to a lesser degree my back last night.  Not quite to the point of cramps but to where they were uncomfortably tight.

Don’t really know why, wasn’t overly stressed.  Work at the co-lo facility went relatively smooth and the drive wasn’t bad, only light showers and relatively light traffic.

Am a little frustrated with the problems I’ve been having getting one customers computers to work properly.  Not just one issue, multiple issues.  Fix one thing and another rears it’s head.  But not enough to cause great tension.  I think I’m being dinner for some microscopic critters.
