MySQL

MySQL stopped responding and so I did myisamchk on all the databases and restarted.  This has not happened in years and I do not know the cause at this point.

Zorin and MxLinux

This evening the shell servers zorin.eskimo.com and mxlinux.eskimo.com will be taken out of service for imaging.  Zorin will require approximately two hours and mxlinux about one half hour.

Maintenance

The following servers will be going down around Midnight for approximately 4 hours to repartition the RAID array to make more space available for backups.

MxLinux, Zorin, Xeno, Minecraft, vps1, vps2, and vps4.

And yes, at the request of several customers, I am working on a Minecraft server.

I’ve revised the time because the move of this partition is taking longer than I had expected.

X2Go Fixed on Mint

X2Go is fixed on Mint.  The apt-add-repository ppa:x2go/stable repository creates a .list file containing the xenial repository which makes sense as Mint 18.3 is still based upon Ubuntu xenial, but the xenial repository does not work, neither does yakkety or zesty although x2go will install from these.  Finally I tried artful, x2go both installs and functions under Mint 18.3 if you use this repository so it is again operational.

X2Go Broken on Mint

X2go is currently broken on Mint.

apt install x2goserver

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
x2goserver : Depends: x2goserver-x2goagent (<4.1.0.1-0~1609~ubuntu16.04.1.1~) but it is not going to be installed Depends: x2goserver-x2goagent (>= 4.1.0.1-0~1609~ubuntu16.04.1) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

I do not understand how it can simultaneously require a version of a package greater and lesser than the installed version so I’m stuck at the moment.

System wide maintenance Saturday Night – Sunday Morning

Sometime between late Saturday Night and early Sunday Morning, I will be rebooting all of the servers to load new kernels.  I do not know the exact time frame because it depends on external events such as when my Son gets off work, but it will be between 10pm-4am.  In addition, I will be taking the mail server down for approximately 1/2 hour to image the machine (a form of backups).

After this is completed there will be a notice posted here.  Please check before reporting outages.

If our web server is down you can also check on status at https://www.facebook.com/EskimoNorth.

Often after reboots some machines will fail to negotiate NFS or NIS properly.  If, after a completion notice is given here, you still experience trouble,  then please use Support->Tickets to initiate a trouble ticket, e-mail support@eskimo.com, or call (206) 812-0051 and leave a message.
